A formal Christian funeral card

A death announcement published as a web page and shared by message, email or the parish newsletter is what we call an online funeral card. It carries the same news as a printed card, reaches everyone on the same day and remains available long after the funeral. This design places that news in a setting of faith and evening stillness.

The layout is centred and symmetrical, as befits a card for a church funeral. At the top, a small cross in gold and the Requiem prayer in italic; then the name in large, light lettering, with the dates of birth and death beneath. The heart of the card is a photograph of a country church at nightfall, trees around it and one window glowing. Below follow the words of the family and two clearly headed sections: the Funeral Mass with the burial afterwards, and the Rosary the evening before. Night petrol, pale lettering and touches of gold keep the whole card restrained.

Once the parish has confirmed the date, the link can go out to family, neighbours and fellow parishioners alike. Each reader can open the route to the church on their own phone, and the cemetery where the burial follows is named on the card as well, so nobody is left searching on the day.

Does the card suit other Christian traditions too?
